This book entitled, “Poetic Potpourri 1 – Expressing sentiments” is a collection of more than 400 Quatrains, Limericks, Doggerels and Sonnets. It is indeed one of its kind by a Malaysian poet, Dr. Elizabeth Jaya Joseph.

This book maybe the first effort where poetic verses such as the quatrain, limerick, doggerel and sonnet are all brought together in one book for the reading pleasure of those who are interested in such types of poetry.

The different types of poetic verses, that are usually humourous, are structured thematically and are the figments of the author’s fertile imagination.

A Quatrain is a poetic verse of four lines. Animal antics, Domestic problems, Love is in the air, Merciless rhymes, Twists and turns, Vanity fair, and Young ones are the chosen themes.

A limerick is a poetic verse of five lines. In this book they highlight popular Hollywood stars, Hosts, Mega contributors, Politicians/leaders, Royalty, Singers/entertainers, and Sports personalities.

A Doggerel is a poetic verse of six lines. Here they touch on Frivolous as well as Serious stuff.

A Sonnet is a poetic verse of 14 lines. Petrarchan sonnets have specific rhyme patterns. In the octave of eight lines, a problem is raised and in the sestet of six lines, a resolution is suggested. Shakespearean sonnets too have they own rhyme patterns. They are made up of three quatrains and end with a surprise in the couplet.
